Have you ever purchased a product which had lifetime warranty stated on the product packaging? We probably all have at one time or another. Have you ever gone back to the store or manufacture of the product, because the product packaging stated lifetime and the product had a defect? Probably most of the time the product with the defect is just thrown away, because the packaging is lost or never kept. Is it worth buying a product with a lifetime warranty, you probably pay a little more for the warranty; included in the cost price. Perhaps it may be better to just buy a cheaper product and know you will replace it in a couple of years. You can form your own opinion on which option, and name brand to go with.
I have decided to follow up on one of these lifetime warranty offers and see how it works out. I have a garden hose that was nine years old, that would get a couple of twists in the hose, that would actually shut off the water supply. The hose was kept on a roll away device, so there should be no reason for the hose to get twist spots. I still had the packaging that came with the Gardena garden hose, and clearly stated on the packaging was Lifetime Warranty. I will show the steps I have taken to try and get the warranty honoured.
The first step that was to go to the store where the garden hose was purchased, which was Can. Tire. I quickly found out that their policy was to cover the product for the first thirty days, and then one had to go to Gardena to cover the warranty. There was no email address on the packaging, but I was able to locate the Gardena web site through Google and from there I was able to obtain an email address to Gardena. I have included the steps I have taken for you to view.

I purchased a Gardena Flex hose 5/8 x 50'. I purchased it June 11 1999.
The hose kinks in two or three places and prevents water from going through.
I have the package the hose came with; it says lifetime warranty.
The USP number is 070964219008.
The product was purchased at Canadian Tire, in xxxxxxxx B.C. but the purchase receipt has been lost in my move
to xxxxxx xxxxxx. Will you and how will you honor this lifetime warranty?

The garden hose was placed in a box and mailed at the lowest price possible.
The route was from B.C. to Ont., which cost $15.00. It took seven days to reach Gardena.
I was able to follow the path through the mail trace option.
I am now waiting for the warranty replacement hose, and will keep you posted on the results.
It took seven days for the defected hose to reach Gardena, it will be of interest to see how many days
it will take to receive the warranty replacement hose.
On Apr.22/09 I received the warranty replacement hose. It is the same length and diameter as the defected hose. The new hose is a quick connect type which includes 2 faucet adapters and 2 product adapters. The hose is heavy duty 5-ply with Gardena built in Gardena quick connects. This hose also has a lifetime warranty. The hose arrived prepaid. All in all, the wait was well worth it and I am very pleased with their handling of their lifetime warranty.
