How To Insulate Windows
and Save Energy
If you are looking for an economically way to keep the heat in your home and the cold out, you have come to the right place. The following article will show you how.
Save Energy, Save Money
To save energy, apply bubble wrap to your window panes. The plastic with air pockets
will help insulate your windows, while allowing light to pass through. On bathroom windows
insulate the entire window as you don't need to see through these windows.
On other windows, leave a strip where you can look out between the bubble wrap (see image).
Glass is a very poor insulator, and you can prove this by simply touching the glass
with your finger to feel the cold. Cold glass create cold drafts by allowing the warm air inside
the house to contact the cold glass, cool and drop to the floor creating an ever circlulating motion,
of cold air; robbing your house of heat.
Applying The Bubble Wrap
To make a solution to hold the bubble wrap to the glass take one cup of white vinegar
and add two cups of hot water. Apply 10 drops of Lavender essential oil (purchased from a heath food store).
Shake well and dump into a pump spray bottle.
This mixture will help prevent any mold from developing behind the bubble-wrap
Cut the bubble wrap to size, clean glass, then spray mixture onto the glass and apply bubble wrap
with the flat, smooth side of the bubble-wrap towards the glass. Smooth onto glass with your hand
The water vinegar mixture will cause the bubble-wrap to stick to the glass.
You can use this disinfectant agent mixture for cleaning fridges and counter-tops as well.
The bubble-wrap can be left in place year round, as it will also help keep the heat
from coming into the house during the hot summer days.
Bubble wrap can be purchased from most office supply stores or places like Staples. It comes in different size rolls.
