First I need to appologize for the pictures. In order to shrink the photos to fit within the bandwith of the page, a lot of the detail was lost. I hope there is enough detail left to help you complete your own project.

The first picture below shows the wall as it was behind the tub and counter. The laundry tub and counter were removed to provide room to work. The wall behind the laundry tub and counter was covered with a linoleum that was starting to curl and peel. The linoleum was removed and an existing hole in the wall was repaired. See gyproc repair page, to see how to repair a hole. A lat was levelled and screwed to the wall on which the tile will rest; this will provide a level base and prevent the applied tiles from sliding down the wall, as the adhesive dries. The lat is removed after the next day.

Next decide what spacing you will use between the tiles. I used 1/4 inch and cut my spacers from 1/4 inch plywood. 3/16 inch is also a good space to use. The spacers only need be about 1 inch long and 1/2 inch wide. These spacers are placed between the tiles vertically and horizontally as you adhere the tile to the wall. They help maintain a consistant spacing to your tiles and prevent any slippage while drying. They are removed the next day. You can also buy premade plastic spacing shims.

This picture, next day, shows the tiles spacers and support lat removed and the tile grouted with a light brown grout.

The back of the fiber-glass laundry tub was warped, angling backward and causing any water here to run in the wrong direction; so cedar wood was used to correct this problem, while also adding beauty to the project. The wood was cut and fitted to the laundey tub, then removed and varathaned with several coats to protect the wood. A couple days later the cedar board, and facet were secured to the laundry tub and and the entire unit was moved to its original spot next to the wall. The plumbing was completed and tested for leaks. The project was complete.

Hint: re-seal tile every year with clear liquid grout sealer, for a watertight seal
