The manual vehicle scissor jack is converted to power by coupling the jack to an impact wrench (electric or air).
When you are changing winter tires on rims to summer, the power jack will make your job much easier, and
faster. Cranking the jack by hand doesn't make sense when you already have an impact wrench. All you have to
do is couple it to the jack. A vehicle can be lifted in a matter of seconds.
Building a coupler
Scissor jack coupler
This coupler was made from an old tire wheel, lug nut key. It already has an 19 mm nut head, so all that is
required is to cut a slot wide enough to slide over the jack screw end (where the manual crank fits). Grind, or use a
hack saw, cut a slot all the way down to the nut head. Slip a short piece of metal pipe over the main section and
tack in place with a welder. If you do not have a welder use a stainless steel pipe clamp in place of the pipe collar, this also works, I first used it this way, to check out the action, then improved the device, by adding the pipe collar. The collar keeps the coupler, while turning, from jumping off the jack screw. Check at a tire shop they usually have an assortment of lug nut keys, that customers have left behind from long
ago.
When you are changing the tires with rims, the socket for the wheel lugs is the same size as the coupler nut size,
so you don't even have to stop to change the size of the socket to power the jack.
