Mahatma Gandhi
Album http://www.kamat.com/mmgandhi/mmgandhi.htm This site has a moderately detailed biography of Gandhi and several pages highlighting aspects of Gandhi's life and political career. It also provides a timeline on Gandhi and one on Indian history and links to pages on Indian history and politics. The Official Mahatma Gandhi eArchive and Reference Library, Mahatma Gandhi Foundation—India http://web.mahatma.org.in/index.jsp A cornucopia of "Gandhiana", including articles, recordings, videos, cartoons, philately and souvenir items, sponsored by the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation of India. The highlight of this site is the online library of Gandhi's works (full books are available for view online!). The library includes works in English as well as in Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, and Assamese. There is a lot to explore on this site.
Mahatma
Gandhi Research and Media Service
(Gandhi Serve Foundation) http://www.gandhiserve.org GandhiServe is sponsored by a German charitable foundation for non-violence. What is notable about this site is its huge e-archive of images, including photos of Gandhi and of events of his time, cartoons, and art. There is also a biography available under the link "Who's Gandhi", and a day-to-day chronology of Gandhi's life. The website is also available in German.
M K Gandhi (Comprehensive site by Gandhian Institute Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal) http://www.mkgandhi.org/index.htm This
site displays a wide variety of items on Gandhi, but seems somewhat emphatic of
his personality and personal life, and is designed almost as a "fan
club" website (for instance, there is a page entitled "New! Gandhi
Tourist Places"). These features do not detract from the site's more
profound aspects: One article of note is found under the
"Economy" link and is entitled
“Gandhi and Buddhist Economics”, which is a treatment of E.F. Schumacher’s
Gandhian economics. There are also articles on Gandhian politics under the
"Politics" link, and articles on non-violence under the "Peace,
Nonviolence, Conflict Resolution" link. For students and
teachers there is a page on Student Projects, and a quiz on Gandhi.
Mark Shepard’s Gandhi Page: Mahatma Gandhi, Nonviolence, and Small Scale Alternatives http://www.markshep.com/nonviolence/index.html This website has several good articles on the theme of non-violence. The highlight of the website is a sophisticated defensive critique of Gandhi's advocacy of non-violent resistance and of Gandhi's economic ideas, written by the website's host, Mark Shepard, entitled "Mahatma Gandhi and his Myths". |
