What is Reiki?

What is Reiki s the Japanese word for Universal Life Energy. The Japanese character for "Rei" means universal, transcendental spirit, mysterious power, essence. "Ki"is the vital life energy, called Chi by the Chinese, Mana by the Hawaiian Kahunas, Prana by the East Indians. This energy is given to all of us as a birthright. It increases the body's natural ability to heal physical ailments and to release the cause of disease. The founders of modern Reiki: Reiki is an ancient healing technique, rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui (1862-1926), who developed the Usui System of Reiki in Japan. He taught Reiki to about 2000 people in Reiki canters and Reiki clinics in many parts of the country. After W.W.II the Reiki movement was introduced to the West. Before his death, Dr. Usui trained one of his students to become the Grand Master, the 52 year-old Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, a retired naval officer. He brought Reiki into the form in we teach it today. He also opened a Reiki clinic in Tokyo, where Mrs. Hawayo Takata, a Japanese from Hawaii, was a patient. She became a Reiki student of Dr. Hayashi in 1936, and received her first attunement. A year later, she received her second attunement, and in 1938 she became a Reiki Master. Shortly after, Dr. Hayashi died and Mrs. Takata became the Grand Master. Before her death in 1980, she initiated and trained 21 Reiki Masters Dr. Usui adopted the Meiji Emperor's five principles
as the Reiki principles Today do not anger Today do not worry Today be grateful for your blessings Today work hard and meditate Today be kind to others and honor your elders< The Reiki Session In a Reiki session the hands are laid on the receiver using twelve or more hand positions that correspond to the major chakras or energy centers in the body. From the hand positions the energy finds its own way to where it is needed most, and creates the feeling of relaxation and well being. What can you expect from a session? As Reiki energy is drawn by the recipient through the practitioner, the effects of a treatment are very individual and determined by the needs of the receiver. In the chart, you can see some general benefits which seem to manifest in most treatments. Every session will vary in format, dictated by the acute needs and troublesome areas of our clients. In every case, certain positions will be used to balance and energize the endocrine system, which is related to the chakras. Reiki I-a weekend workshop, 10-5, Saturday and Sunday; or 4 evenings for those who cannot attend weekend workshops. You will learn and practice the Reiki hand positions for self and others, the history of Reiki, and applications in daily life. Reiki II-a one-day workshop teaching distant healing, mental healing and an empowerment technique. Being initiated into Reiki will help you to use this given force in a more aware and focused way. The Reiki attunement process is a very ancient and sacred method for fine tuning the physical and etheric bodies to a higher vibratory level. Chakras, or energy centers in the body, are opened, enabling the Reiki student to channel greater amounts of Universal Life Energy.
