The watermelons in Iran were fantastic, Jacky, Dave and I must have ate 20 of
them during our time together, what a treat on a hot afternoon. Yazd.

The town of Bam is an oasis far off in the desert in Eastern Iran, it is hot
and dusty and full of date palms. I think it's the perfect romantic image of
an ancient Persian desert town. They seem to flood the large gutters in Bam
to transfer water from place to place for irrigation, this young guy is just
using it to cool off.
Arg-e-Bam (fort), the rebuilt old city walls from when Bam was a desert trading
outpost. (Note: This ancient fort, and terribly, much of the town of Bam was
destroyed by an Earthquake in December 2003).

A view over the abandoned old city, all made from mud, brick and plaster, Bam.
The remnants of an afternoon sandstorm that swept through the city can still
be seen above the horizon.
