A monument at the Gallipoli peninsula. This is where the ANZACs (Australia and
New Zealand Army Corps) battled with Turkish forces under the command of a young
Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in WWI.
Graves for the ANZAC soldiers, Gallipoli.
Many young Turks make a pilgrimage to Gallipoli during their manditory army
service to see where Ataturk (who later founded the modern Turkish republic)
was shot and miraculously saved by a watch in his breast pocket. This is an
amazing chapter of Turkish history, a monument was later erected on the spot
proclaiming "This is where Ataturk was given to us."
A jumble of old houses right in the middle of modern Ankara. Near the Citadel
and Ulus district.
Ataturk's mausuleum, the Anit Kabir, in Ankara.
Many Turkish flags were up decorating Ankara for the May 19th holiday (something
to do with the Army being founded).
Ataturk's portrait between two flags, on (what else...) Ataturk boulavard, Ankara.
