HUDSON BAY POST-REVIEW, Wednesday, February 28, 2007.
GIBSON - Mr. Frank Gibson passed away peacefully at the Brookhaven Care Centre, Westbank, B.C. on Tuesday, February 20, 2007. He was 98 years old. Frank was born Dec 08, 1908 to Bernard and Ellen (Carpenter) Gibson at Sintaluta, Saskatchewan. He was educated in the Pheasant Plain School District in the Kenlis area. Frank met Ethel Parkinson in Minnedosa, Manitoba. They were married Jan 17, 1938 at Yorkton, Saskatchewan moving the same year to Nipawin, Saskatchewan where Frank began his long and successful career in the hardware & furniture business. In 1950 they moved to Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan, retiring in 1966 to Kelowna, B.C. Frank was predeceased by his loving wife Ethel and daughter Lynn (Merv) Clark of Red Deer, Alberta. He is survived by a daughter Judy (Garnet) Jones of Langley, B.C. and a son Gordon of Vancouver, B.C. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Judy (Todd) Brandt, Trevor (Loralie) Clark, Shannon (Todd) Nivens, Darren (Dayna) Jones and Jason (Naomi) Jones as well as nine great-grandchildren, Meghan, Sean, Natalie, Amanda, Benjamin, Kaden, Ainsley, Jessica and Hailey. Frank was predeceased by three brothers Bernie, Rob and Basil and leaves to mourn his passing four nieces, two nephews, extended family and life-long friends. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives were touched by him. Frank was closely involved in community affairs, his church and the Elks Lodge. In Porcupine Plain he was a member of the town council, serving as mayor during the formative year 1964 when a water and sewer system was first installed in the municipality. During his semi-retirement in Kelowna he founded a wholesale giftware business, initially servicing retail customers in B.C. but eventually expanding to place merchandise in major department stores across Canada. Throughout his life Frank was a respected community leader and an astute, honest and trustworthy businessman. Dad loved to travel. Our parents visited Greece, Indonesia, Hawaii and California. Dad was fun loving, had a great sense of humour, and was unconditionally caring and compassionate. He was a kind and loving husband and father. We his children, have fond memories of the special effort Mom & Dad made in their retirement years to spend time with us. In turn we have many happy memories of family gatherings at their home in the Okanagan. The family wish to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the Brookhaven staff for the wonderful care they provided for our parents. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 03 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1211 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, B.C., Rev. Ted Roworth officiating.
