This Monument
Is Erected in Memory of
Maj'r Gen'l Thomas Handasyd,
who for many Years was
Governour of Iamaica [sic].
He died the 26'th March 1729
in the Eighty fifth Year of his Age,
Much Lamented
having been the best of Fathers
And the best of Friends.
Here also lies the Body of the
Hon'ble Gen'l ROGER HANDASYD.
Eldest Son of the above THO'S HANDASYD, who died
Jan'ry the 4'th 1763, Aged 78. He was General in Chief
of all His Majestys foot Forces, was formerly
Governor of Fort S't Philip in Minorca
was also Governor of Berwick in the Rebellion in 1745.
Who during his many years Disinterested Service,
shewed his great skill in Military Affairs.
And his Zeal and Attachment to the present
Government.
He has died Greatly Lamented by all who had the
Pleasure of his Acquaintance.
Here lieth also M'RS ANN PROBY, Sister to the late
General HANDASYD, who died December 6'th 1777, Aged
80.

Heraldry - sa, a lion rampant ar, on a chief gu 3 mullets or, a bordure engrailed of the 2nd.HANDASYD. Crest - a dexter hand erect, couped at wrist, gu. [ N.B. - the HANDASYD arms should be - ar, a lion rampant sa, on a chief az 3 mullets of the 1st and the crest - a dexter hand couped at wrist, erect and proper.]

(Large wall monument of many coloured marbles. Sides canted back at 45 degrees. At head a draped urn between display of trophies. To the front and between two helmets the arms above. North chapel. East wall.)

"Berrows Worcester Journal.
London Tuesday January 11th 1763. Last Tuesday died at his appartments in Hanover-square, The Hon.General Handasyd of Gayns Hall in the County of Huntingdon where his loss will be severely felt. He was one of the oldest Generals in His Majesty's service into which he was early initiated under his Father when he was Governor of Jamaica. He represented the Boroughs of Huntingdon and Scarborough for several sessions in Parliament."
