THELMA FRANK (nee Kearns)

Thelma was born in Kinistino on November 28, 1905. She received her education at Crompton School and Kinistino High School. Thelma had many cold rides to Crompton with her brother, Gordon, by pony and flat sleigh; in summer they went by pony and rubber-tired cart.

Thelma became a teacher in 1926; her first school was Merrywood in the Humboldt district. Later years, she taught at Pahonan and Omand.

In 1926, Thelma married Allan Slater. Of this union six children were born: Jim, Gordon, Donald, Karen, Shirley, and Mary. Mary died at four and a half years of age.

Allan Slater passed away in 1961. The following year, Thelma married Mathew Frank. She taught school for four years at Bridge Lake, B.C. Then, they moved to Spence's Bridge, later to Victoria, where they still reside.

At present, Thelma keeps busy with her painting. She also instructs several classes for the Silver Threads (a senior citizens organization). She has enjoyed many trips, to England, U.S.A., and through the interior of British Columbia.
