I William Baker of Halberton in the County of Devon Yeoman do make and publish this to be my last Will and Testament.
I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Bubb[Babb] the Sum of Ten Pounds for her own absolute use and benefit and disposal separate and apart from her Husband so as the same shall not be liable to his respective Debts Control Contracts or Engagements and her receipt alone shall be a good sufficient and effectual discharge. I also give and bequeath unto my Daughter Frances Radford the Sum of Ten Pounds. I also give and bequeath unto my grandson John Baker the Son of my Son John Baker deceased the Sum of Five Pounds of lawful money of Great Britain all which said Legacies hereinbefore by me given I hereby direct shall be paid by my Executors or their respective Legatees within Twelve months next after my decease.
I also give and bequeath unto my Wife Jenny Baker All my Live and dead Stock, Household Goods, Money, Securities for money and all my [Personal and] personal Estate and Effects whatsoever for their[sic] own absolute use benefit and disposal after paying all my just Debts funeral Expences proving this my Will and all Legacies hereinbefore by me given.
And I further will and direct that if either my said Sons should marry he shall give up all further right and claim to my Estate and Effects unto the other two [sic] after receiving his fair proportion of the whole the same to be valued by two respectable men chosen by my Executors. And I appoint my Wife Jenny and my Son William and my Son James whole and Sole Executors and Administrators to this my Will hereby revoking all former Wills and Testamentary dispositions by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Twenty Ninth day of June in the year 1836.

"Newtown Police Station, 27th November, 1871. Sergt. Moore reports for the information of Inspecting Supt. Bookey that Matilda Leach aged 1 1/2 years, belonging to the Church of England, daughter of Robert Leach, labourer of Childwell, died last night and the mother of the child applied for a pauper's burial, and from inquiries made, the Sergt. finds that the parents are quite destitute, as the father of the child is out of employment for a long time."
