Before the undersigned Charles Francois Constantine Vaillant Notary residing at Dunkerk and in the presence of 1st of Mr Jacques Laurent Benjamin Schneider Shopkeeper 2nd of Mr Jean Francois Delacre Grocer 3rd of Mr Pierre Louis Mazint Workman 4th and of Mr Henry Janin Lamare Merchants Clerk all four dwelling at Dunkerk witnesses required possessing all the qualities required by law and also undersigned appeared Mr Thomas Ralph Congreve an Englishman living upon his fortune dwelling at Dunkerk in Rue Royale the said appearer being of sound mind memory and judgement so as appeared to the said Notary and witnesses by his subsequent discourses who in consideration of death has made and dictated his testament to the said Notary who wrote it down such as it was dictated to him in the presence of the said four witnesses in manner & wise following.I give and bequeath to Miss Victoire Joseph Duval my housekeeper living with me in recompence for her good services the sum of seventeen thousand one hundred seventy seven francs to be taken from the readiest or clearest goods of my succession. I further give and bequeath to the said Miss Duval the usufructuary enjoyment during her life of my house situate at Dunkerk place on Bois No 8 which I have purchased of P2 and D2 Laconte by Contract passed before Vaillant the undersigned Notary and his Colleague the tenth of this present month registered thus done and dictated by the Testator to the said Notary who has written this testament such as it was dictated to him has thereupon read it to the testator who declared to understand it and to persevere in the dispositions therein contained the whole in the presence of the said four witnesses at Dunkerk at the office the fifteenth of January one thousand eight hundred thirty three in the afternoon and the testator as well as the witnesses signed with the Notary after it had been read over.
