1. The marriage of George HANDASYD & Sarah AUDSLEY took place on Jun 22, 1749 in the church of Saint Mary at Hill, London. This is the same church, site of the first 2 (of 3) marriages of Dr. Clifford HANDASYD of Gaynes Hall, Huntingdon, later of Red Lyon [Red Lion] Square, London. The marriage of George & Sarah took place just prior to the c1750 birth of William as calculated from William's age-at-death (61 years; buried Oct 11, 1811 St Paul's Birmingham).
2. William HANDASYD of Birmingham and his wife Elizabeth (Ward) named their first son George and their first daughter Sarah; neither forename apparently derived from her immediate WARD/PEMBERTON family... More importantly, they named a son Joseph Audsley (Joseph Audsley HANDASYD s/o William & Elizabeth buried Aug 15, 1789 St Paul's Birmingham.)
3. A family story passed down by Emily Alice, wife of Tom Lea PAYNE (1861-1950) great grandson of William & Elizabeth HANDASYD, purports that our family is related to "General Handasyd." By implication this refers to Major General Sir Thomas HANDASYD (c1644-1729) Colonel of the 22nd Foot and acting Governor of Jamaica during the period 1702-1711, also the father of Dr. Clifford HANDASYD above.
Research is ongoing to discover the critical baptism record of William HANDASYD (c1750)... finally proving that he is the son of George HANDASYD & Sarah AUDSLEY as proposed here. Also for any documentary evidence confirming that the said George is indeed George, son of Dr. Clifford HANDASYD.
