Girl Dies, Paralysis Victim
Infantile paralysis claimed its second victim in the Winnipeg area Friday when 12-year-old Emily Jones died at King George hospital. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones, of Dominion City, Man., and was admitted to St. Roch's hospital last Tuesday suffering from a paralysed arm and side. Thursday she suffered a further paralysis of the respiratory system; and she was transferred to King George hospital for special treatment, to which she failed to react.
Three other new cases of infantile paralysis and two suspects were admitted to hospital during the week-end. Two of the new cases were admitted to St. Roch's hospital and were from Transcona. One is a girl, Caroline Mozel, aged 8, and the other a boy, Douglas Walter, four years old. Robert McLeod, 14, of Osborne, Man., who was admitted to St. Roch's last week as a suspect case was definitely diagnosed Saturday as suffering from infantile paralysis. A suspect case 35 years of age was also admitted at St. Roch's during the week-end from St. Boniface.
At King George hospital a suspect case was admitted Saturday afternoon from the southwestern residential section of Winnipeg, while another case was expected to arrive by train early Monday.F iv Living M v Geoffrey Douglas JONES
