Trucker missing in N.W.T. river

Helicopters, planes and boats are searching the banks of a fast-running river in the Northwest Territories for an Evansburg man who fell off a barge Saturday. Dennis Jones, 33, had just backed his semi-trailer onto a barge that was about to cross the Liard River, six kilometres south of Fort Liard, and climbed out of his cab to unhook his trailer when he fell into the rushing waters. Jones is an employee of Pidherney's Trucking of Rocky Mountain House. His truck was under contract to BP Canada Energy Co. "He was bringing down a truckload of scrap from our Pointed Mountain site near Fort Liard," said Phil Cochrane, BP spokesman in Calgary. The Pointer Mountain facility is a natural gas-processing plant that has been decommissioned.
