He was 98 years old. Frank was born Dec 08, 1908 to Bernar 5 CONC d and Ellen (Carpenter) Gibson at Sintaluta, Saskatchewan. He was educated in the Pheasant Pl 5 CONC ain School District in the Kenlis area. Frank met Ethel Parkinson in Minnedosa, Manitoba. The 5 CONC y were married Jan 17, 1938 at Yorkton, Saskatchewan moving the same year to Nipawin, Saskatc 5 CONC hewan where Frank began his long and successful career in the hardware & furniture business 5 CONC . In 1950 they moved to Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan, retiring in 1966 to Kelowna, B.C. Fran 5 CONC k was predeceased by his loving wife Ethel and daughter Lynn (Merv) Clark of Red Deer, Albert 5 CONC a. He is survived by a daughter Judy (Garnet) Jones of Langley, B.C. and a son Gordon of Vanc 5 CONC ouver, B.C. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Judy (Todd) Brandt, Trevor (Loralie) C 5 CONC lark, Shannon (Todd) Nivens, Darren (Dayna) Jones and Jason (Naomi) Jones as well as nine gre 5 CONC at-grandchildren, Meghan, Sean, Natalie, Amanda, Benjamin, Kaden, Ainsley, Jessica and Hailey 5 CONC . Frank was predeceased by three brothers Bernie, Rob and Basil and leaves to mourn his passi 5 CONC ng four nieces, two nephews, extended family and life-long friends. He will be sadly missed a 5 CONC nd lovingly remembered by all whose lives were touched by him. Frank was closely involved i 5 CONC n community affairs, his church and the Elks Lodge. In Porcupine Plain he was a member of th 5 CONC e town council, serving as mayor during the formative year 1964 when a water and sewer syste 5 CONC m was first installed in the municipality. During his semi-retirement in Kelowna he founde 5 CONC d a wholesale giftware business, initially servicing retail customers in B.C. but eventuall 5 CONC y expanding to place merchandise in major department stores across Canada. Throughout his lif 5 CONC e Frank was a respected community leader and an astute, honest and trustworthy businessman. D 5 CONC ad loved to travel. Our parents visited Greece, Indonesia, Hawaii and California. Dad was fu 5 CONC n loving, had a great sense of humour, and was unconditionally caring and compassionate. He w 5 CONC as a kind and loving husband and father. We his children, have fond memories of the special e 5 CONC ffort Mom & Dad made in their retirement years to spend time with us. In turn we have many ha 5 CONC ppy memories of family gatherings at their home in the Okanagan. There, Ellen, together wit 2 CONC h her father William Baker CARPENTER and sister Sallie had (for a time) operated a halfway ho 2 CONC use for pioneers. Sallie (Sarah Were CARPENTER) was a witness at the marriage of Ellen & Bern 2 CONC ard, signing "S.W. Carpenter" on the marriage certificate. Bernard & Ellen resided on NE08-19 2 CONC -10 W2 where they farmed and raised a family of three sons. By 1930 the family owned or lease 2 CONC d 5 quarter-sections (800 acres) of land: NE08-19-10, NW09-19-10, SE17-19-10, SE05-19-10, an 2 CONC d SW08-19A-10. 2 CONT 2 CONT In the early 1940's Bernard & Ellen retired from farming and moved year-round to "Littlewhile 2 CONC s", their cottage and Bernard's studio at nearby Lake Katepwa in the Qu'Appelle Valley. It sh 2 CONC ould be noted that both Bernard and Will were talented artists (as was their father). Our Gib 2 CONC son family has a number of watercolor paintings, paintings on porcelain, and pencil sketches 2 CONC , done in Canada and England. 2 CONT 2 CONT After Ellen died in 1945 Bernard began staying in the winter months at the YMCA in Regina, re 2 CONC turning to Lake Katepwa in the summer. In Jan 1966 he suffered a stroke in Regina and was hos 2 CONC pitalized for several months. After being in several rest homes, he arrived back at Echo Lodg 2 CONC e, the new rest home in Fort Qu'Appelle, when it opened. He returned to set up a butchers busines 2 CONC s with his father in Ludlow in the early 1890's but would return to Hampshire by 1895 [see no 2 CONC tes for JC, Eng > Australia c1912]. In 1894 Alfred Carpenter also moved to Hampshire to serv 2 CONC e an apprenticeship [see notes for AMC, Eng > New Zealand 1909]. 2 CONT 2 CONT William H. Carpenter joined the army, circa 1895. 2 CONT 2 CONT In 1896 at the age of 27 Mary B. Carpenter, eldest child of William & Maria, became the firs 2 CONC t in her large family to leave England, travelling to Toronto, Canada, where she worked a 2 CONC s a nurse at Toronto General Hospital [S.S. Parisian departing Liverpool for Quebec & Montrea 2 CONC l on Aug 20th, 1896]. 2 CONT 2 CONT In 1898 William B. Carpenter followed his daughter to Canada, travelling west with the intent 2 CONC ion of taking up land & preparing a home for his wife & younger members of his family [S.S. C 2 CONC arthaginian departing Liverpool for Quebec & Montreal on June 9th, 1898]. About then, Maria w 2 CONC ith children Frank, Sarah, John & Gweneth rejoined with James and Alfred in Hampshire, whil 2 CONC e Robert & Ellen remained in Ludlow. 2 CONT 2 CONT By 1902 Maria with her 3 youngest children moved back to Tiverton, Devon. She was joined ther 2 CONC e later by Alfred. 2 CONT 2 CONT In 1902 Frank emigrated to Canada via New York. Travelling with him was Mary who must have re 2 CONC turned temporarily to England [S.S. Philadelphia departing Southampton for New York on Feb 22 2 CONC nd, 1902]. Frank found work with Eaton's Department Store in Toronto and began his long and s 2 CONC uccessful career with that company. Soon after in 1902 Ellen and Sarah embarked for Canada [S 2 CONC .S. Tunisian departing Liverpool for Quebec & Montreal on Apr 24th, 1902]. The sisters travel 2 CONC led west and rejoined their father. For a time, father & daughters operated a halfway house f 2 CONC or pioneers at Kenlis, Assiniboia, NWT (later Saskatchewan). Ellen married Bernard GIBSON i 2 CONC n Kenlis in 1904. Sadly, WBC died nearby in Regina on Sep 04, 1905. In the spring of 1906 Sar 2 CONC ah was living with Bernard & Ellen on the farm. 2 CONT 2 CONT In 1906 Maria S. Carpenter and her youngest child Gweneth emigrated to Canada and took up res 2 CONC idence with Frank in Toronto [S.S. Victorian departing Liverpool for Halifax & St. John on Ap 2 CONC r 4th, 1906] and Sarah returned east to make her home with them there. Note: John S. Carpente 2 CONC r also arrived in Toronto about 1905 or 06, ship and exact date unknown.
