Who is the Holy Spirit?
- the one and only true God
- a member of the Trinity (Matt. 3: 16)
- equal in power, knowledge, and presence to the other members of the Trinity (I Cor. 2: 10b)
What are the tasks of the Holy Spirit?
- there are many tasks in regard to our salvation, the continuing of God's kingdom, and the furtherance of the gospel
- involvement in the birth of Christ (Matt. 1: 20)
- involvement in Christ's life on earth (Luke 4: 1-13)
- administrator of the plan of salvation
- calls upon the sinner (Rev. 22: 17)
- awakens the sinner's conscience (John 16: 8)
- responsible for four aspects which define our salvation
- justification (I Cor. 6: 11)
- regeneration (John 3: 3-8)
- adoption (Gal. 4: 6-7)
- sanctification (II Thess. 2: 13)
Through the work of the Holy Spirit we are
- given faith in Jesus Christ
- made righteous before God
- grafted into Christ and given all His benefits
- washed clean so that we become more and more dead to sin and begin to lead a holy and blameless life
How do we show that the Holy Spirit is working in our hearts?
- showing fruits of thankfulness (Gal. 5: 22-23)
