International Women's Day Statement
Today, on International Women’s Day 2004, we mobilize to advance the struggle for women’s liberation. We remember and honour our militant sisters - immigrant garment workers -who came together in New York more than a hundred years ago to protest their inhumane working conditions. We draw inspiration from their historic struggle and honour them every year on this day as well as the continuing resistance of marginalized and working class women. We take this opportunity to remind ourselves that it is women in the Third World who suffer the most from the institutions, policies and practices of imperialism. As women in the First World, we stand in solidarity with them while advancing our own struggles.
