Introduction

My LMCC exam part I is over (LMCC = Licensing exam for Canadian doctors)!  The exam involved 7.5hrs of sitting in front of a computer screen and answering questions.  Yeah!  But the exam is dynamic so that it got harder as you got more questions right.  For those with quick minds, I did say Part I.  This means I have to complete part II sometime in the future, and this is hoping that I did not fail part I.  Onto my holidays!

Karen Strikes Back

Karen Lee came back for a quick visit over the Easter Holidays.  David Du organized an event at Sammy J Peppers.  It was very loud, and I didn’t get to talk to Karen much.  The event was known more as the day the Canucks got eliminated from the playoffs, but that’s another story.  She did tell me that this quick visit to Vancouver was all last-minute – i.e. fly in, fly out, work the next day kind of ordeal.  Her summer vacation plans are really dependent on what Tim does.  There is a possibility of Tim going to Europe, as part of his doctorate thesis and if this happens, Karen will get to go to Germany and other interesting places.

As part of my on-going duties to get you the real scoop, I emailed Karen and asked her how she has been doing and what she has been up to.  Her answers (Yes, these are her real answers) are as follows:

A: What are your plans for the coming year?

K: Well, hopefully by the end of the year, I'll have figured out where I'll be for the next few years.  Tim is aiming to get his phD by early 2007, so some changes are ahead.

A: Any expectations of a new job?  Big changes?

K: Heh, no new job while I'm in Toronto yet, since I don't even know if I'll be here for very long.  Vacation plans?  Well Tim and I just went to HK on January, so we haven't been planning much yet.  Maybe to Europe or the maritime provinces this summer. [You better hurry if you want to visit the maritimes.  Richard is moving out soon!]

A: What is one thing you miss about Vancouver?

K: Good cheap sushi!  Oh, and I guess there aren't any good hikes or ski slopes close by.  Not much other than that.  I guess I also miss the friends and family in Vancouver... although there seems to be a constant
stream of people visiting us all the time.
[Your interpretation is skewed.  You don’t miss them.  We miss you more so we visit you more than vice versa.  Heh.]

Figure 1.  Group shot!  Tim’s hiding behind Karen Lee, but he’s there.  Notice the male to female ratio!  From left to right: Anson, Lillian, Karen, Chris (far right), long hair Ray, David, Jon, Victor (staring away).

Figure 2.  Jonathan says that he was rejected by co-op student at work after he made some moves on her a few years ago.  “Nooo eye fall.  She id ought lick me.”  The experience has certainly soured his tastes (note the lemon).

David Thompson Reunion

2006 marks the ten year anniversary since we were released into the real world from David Thompson.  According to the website, Monday’s special will be cream of carrot and ginger (yuck!).  But more importantly, this is the website that we should be paying attention to as this will soon mark our ten year reunion.  Who is organizing it?  None other than John Pavao of course.  Viet spoke to him briefly and apparently John has not started.  He hopes to get something done by the Fall, but who has time for a reunion in the Fall?  Maybe another 15 years from now…aim for our 25th?

Mission Impossible III

I had the opportunity to see an advanced screening of this film, thanks to the captain of my roller hockey team who is always giving out free movie tickets!  This is one of the big block-buster films I’ve been dying to see this summer.  The others include: Da Vinci Code, Pirates of the Carribean II.  That’s it!  I don’t care about Miami Vice or X-men or Superman Returns.  These latter films are all wait and see.

So what do I think of this film?  Well, I had several movie critiques come along with me and these were their reactions.

SPOILER ALERT!

My Father: Good. [Did not sleep during the movie.  This is a good thing, is it not?]

Ka Young: Where is my wallet?  Anson, can I borrow some money?  [I guess Tom Cruise must have aged a lot because even he could not prevent Ka Young from thinking about money, a pre-occupation that my medical friend, Simon Chiu, loves to do.]

Winnie Wan: Ugh, the ending was so cheesy.  The CPR scene was so predictable.  I’d like it if Tom Cruise actually died when he slid down that building.  [A cynical critique.]

Marisa Wan: Tom Cruise has aged well, but he is not a doctor!  Vitamins for depression?  Silent births? [Who says an actor’s outside life is not carried over into the movies?]

Overall: Good Action + Good Technology + Cheesy Scenes – No moral meaning = Good enough to watch.

Conclusion

Well, this blog is over this month.  In our next blog, I plan to interview my friend Ken Lai.  Stay tuned for this geeky answers!

Meanwhile, it’s going to be Spring Cleaning at my house.  It’s been 4 years since I cleaned up my room.  I guess it’s time to start.
