Welcome to the Windarra Pages!
Last update: April 15/2007
I've developed this site in order to pass on ideas and tips on how to make the 26X a better boat. It's purpose isn't to praise the X's virtues or to knock its faults. To make the site more graphics friendly, it uses small thumbnail pictures, which can be expanded by clicking on them. Please sign my guestbook, or feel free to send me a note if you need more details or advice on any of my mods. I hope you find your visit worthwhile and enjoyable.

"Windarra" is an Australian Aborigine word roughly translated to mean "where to now?". She's a 1997 Macgregor 26X (hull #1366). These yachts are the only trailer-able sailboat in the world that can power at planing speeds with just a 50 HP engine, allowing tremendous versatility. She's powered by a Honda 50 which achieves its rated HP at 5750 RPM by using a slightly cupped 12.25" X 10" prop. This gives a top speed close to 20 MPH. I've never heard of another getting the advertised "24 MPH" from 50 HP, so I'm not hopeful of powering any faster. But then, 20 MPH isn't bad for a sailboat!
