The dedication ceremony took place on Saturday October 8, 1988 at St. Mary's. In attendance were Hindsons from Canada and the United States as well as about 15 Hindsons from England and the regular parishioners of St. Mary's.

The Archdeacon of Carlisle and the Vicar of Wreay performed the service which was followed by a reception hosted by the Canadian and American Hindson families.

" This plaque is a proud reminder to future generations of Hindsons of what their ancestors did, where they lived and died, and where their name remains well known and is spelled and pronounced correctly."
