Hopscotch Abyssinians

About us

We are a small cattery breeding only Abyssinian cats. We are focusing on ruddy Abyssinians and are committed to producing quality Abyssinians for approved homes. Our goal as breeders is to improve this breed not just aesthetically but also physically - a cat should not just be beautiful but should live a long healthy life as well. We care about the health of our cats and appreciate any news of how the kittens we produce are doing throughout their lives.

We are located in Mission, BC, Canada. Mission is located in the southwest corner of BC, approximately 1 hour 20 min east of Vancouver.

Update (Summer 2009): We are going to be taking a break from breeding Abyssinians due to time constraints after the birth of our first son. We feel strongly that if we do not have adequate time for all of the cats & kittens to have ample handling on a daily basis that it is best to just enjoy a few of our favorite kitties as housepets & leave breeding to those that do have plenty of time to devote to raising kittens & that will do a good job of it. I will miss the breeding program & the kittens but I just know that when my maternity leave ends I won't have a whole lot of time left over after working & caring for our new son & our pet cats & our dogs... and I think my husband might like a few minutes with me too! We would still love to hear from our aby homes as we always enjoy hearing about what our babies are up to & seeing photos of them.

At our previous home in Maple Ridge we built an outdoor run where the cats could enjoy the outdoors safely. Here is Score perching over a catnip plant on her first time out in the kitty run. She had a great time playing outside in this safe environment. We have not yet figured out an outdoor kitty area at our new home but it is on the to-do list. There seem to be a lot of things on that list!!!

Please note that Abys are not suitable for free-roaming outdoors. There are many hazards that face cats that are allowed outdoors & due to their nature Abys are much more likely to get into trouble than the average housecat.

In addition to our abys, we have 2 neutered DSH - or as I like to think of them - SPCA Specials! These guys are a big part of our lives and here is their spot on our site. Striker's job is to make sure we get up good and early for the morning feeding - he starts work around 4am! He is pictured on the left resting up so he'll have lots of energy for waking us up later. Molson has decided he likes it when there are kittens around - lots of yummy kitten food available and someone is always ready to play.

Also, we have 3 dogs: 2 Australian shepherds and a border collie. Our border collie, George, is obsessed with the Abys and spends just about every waking moment staring at the cats. He's been known to stare unmoving at Daisy for over an hour while she naps. Our Aussies are Chipper & Pride. Pride is a retired show dog & he is a champion. Chipper has been trained in agility & sheep herding. She is very enthusiastic & loves to play agility, but has had to retire as she has arthritis in her back. She does well on a special diet & with light activity but gets quite sore if she overdoes it. Here is a picture of Chipper and Daisy sharing the couch.
