Deter

There once was a boy that possessed a great power, only he didn't know about it and no one else recognized his potential. His mom and dad were always fighting about something. Most times it was about money. They couldn't get enough, it seemed. Deter didn't think his parents needed the money as there was always lots of food. Pappy liked his work, and they were a lot richer than all their friends were. So, one night at the supper table, (just after an argument had settled) Deter sat up straight and bravely said, "Dad, why must you both fight and make your lives miserable for money that's not needed?" "Boy," said his father, "speak no more of this matter or I'll whip you raw behind the woodshed." "If you don't stop this greed for it," the boy went on, "this world will pay for these evils." "Stop!" cried his mother as Deter's father drug him back of the shed. His mother cringed each time she heard a scream. When Deter's mother heard someone come in, she came out of the bedroom where she'd been crying. The father was standing in the living room muttering swear words almost inaudibly. "Is he okay?" she finally blurted out only to be silenced by the trail of blood leading to junior's room. Well, at least, she knew he was alive. "He's to be locked in his room all weekend, and he wont be fed either." Do you hear me?" screamed his father. "Yes" sobbed Deter's mother. "Then answer me right away or I'll beat you too - understand?" he yelled. "Yes, I understand" she answered promptly. Deter was listening, at his door, and this made his temper boil. He sat up all night chanting: "Flood the land, flood the land and wash the evil from these hands." This continued to the wee hours of the morning, and by eight o'clock am the tremors could already be felt. By midday, the seas had begun. Only the highest of peaks were left above sea level. By six that evening, the planet had completely broken apart. No oceans, no land, no life, and no trace.
