The
program “Baby Think It Over” is for young
people to learn about the responsibilities of parenthood
using the computerized “baby” simulators.
These simulators are programmed to be cared for like a
real baby. Requiring head support, change diapers, bottle
feeding and burping. Just like a real baby they cry at
all hours of the day or night.
Schools and youth groups can use these simulators in
life skills, psychology and C.A.P.P. programs. The Ministry
of Children & Families and the Interior Health Public
Health Nurses have used the “Babies”. Students
get to take the babies home for a period from 24 hours
to 7 days according to the instructor’s assessment
or time available for each student to have a turn caring
for the “baby”
There are also two manikins that show the effects of
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and drug affects on a “baby”.
These are available for the drug and alcohol counselors,
nurses and instructors for demonstration and instruction
only.
The “Babies” are used as education tools
and hopefully as a deterrent to teen pregnancy, which
is very high in our communities. “Some Decisions
Last a Lifetime”
