2006 Constable Suki Dhillon has been a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police since 2000 and is currently posted to Surrey Detachment’s Youth Unit.   From the start of his career Constable Dhillon has displayed an exemplary commitment to volunteering his time for the good of his community.

Despite being junior in service Constable Dhillon stands out as a role model for all members at Surrey Detachment. There is no doubt that with all of his efforts he has and continues to have a positive influence on his community. It is the culmination of all his volunteer activities, which has made Constable Dhillon a worthy candidate of this award.

For the past 15 years the Surrey RCMP Detachment has hosted the RCMP Classic Basketball Tournament. This is the 2nd largest youth basketball tournament in British Columbia and forms part of the Senior and Junior boys AAA basketball league.  While this event contributes to the development of youth thru sports programs it is not limited to basketball.  In 2006 $6000.00 was raised towards several youth scholarship programs.  The scholarships are awarded to deserving players so that they may pursue their academic development as well.  This tournament is of such magnitude that the planning and implementation process is an ongoing yearly commitment.  Constable Dhillon has been actively involved in the successful organization of this event since 2003 and has since become one of the principle organizers.  Over these years he has put in countless hours of his own time to ensure the success of the program.

In April of 2005 Constable Dhillon spearheaded a program to create evening youth sports at Tamanawis Secondary School. In partnership with a youth worker from Tamanawis Secondary School, every Saturday evening, the high school sports facilities are made available to youth for either basketball or floor hockey.  While participation is open to all youth an effort is made to gear this towards at risk youth.  Surrey police and auxiliary officers routinely attend and interact with the youth in a non-confrontational setting.  This program creates the opportunity for mentorship and asset building with the youth in this community. On any given evening there will be 50 or so young people participating and the program has promoted the creation of the Newton Knights 5 on 5 basketball tournament.   Had it not been for Constable Dhillon's determination to the youth of our community, programs such as these would not have been implemented.

He has also dedicated much of his time to the Surrey Detachment Auxiliary Constable 2005 training program.  He was the sole effective presentations instructor for both classes of Auxiliary Constables candidates and was heavily involved in their use of force training.

Constable Dhillon has been a volunteer member of the Training Academy Cadet Band and he actively participated in the local Cops for Cancer program.

Has been a member of the E Division RCMP Ceremonial Troop.  These members volunteer their time to participate in Red Serge functions.  Constable Dhillon remains an active member of the troop and has received several written acknowledgments for his participation in the Troop.

While still on general duty policing, Constable Dhillon was assigned to liaise with George Greenaway Elementary School.  Constable Dhillon took his duties beyond a simple visit and saw value added to the service delivery by taking the initiative to organize a child identification clinic for the students of this school.
