Hops is an excellent sedative - used to induce better sleeping patterns - and in cough syrups. Hops poultice used for abscesses - boils - tumors and pain. Honey combined with hops is excellent for bronchitis. Hops are universally known as a flavoring and preservative in beer.

Ivy

Poultices made from the leaves are used for cuts, sores and skin eruptions - antiseptic.

Juniper

Juniper has long been regarded as a diuretic - gentle stimulant, effective for kidney, urinary and bladder trouble, it strengthens the brain - memory - optic nerve. Excellent as a spray for fumigation. Berries can be chewed, or a strong tea used as a gargle when exposed to contagious diseases; a good immunizer.

Lady's Mantle

Lady's Mantle is prized for its astringent properties. It is used to stop bleeding, to heal wounds and bruises. The dried herb is used for diarrhea and dysentery, and for excessive menstruation as well as general bleeding.

Lavender

Lavender has long been used as a fragrance. Mild tranquilizer in smelling salts.

Linden Blossoms

Gentle sedative - induces restful sleep, especially in children, relaxes the nervous system. Also used for feverish colds and influenza.

Lovage

Lovage roots are candied and used as a sweet and a breath lozenge. Leaves and stems are added to stews and eaten as a vegetable. It relieves gas pains and promotes a calming and soothing effect on the nervous system.

Male Fern

Male Fern is one of the most potent remedies for tapeworm. The root contains a substance that paralizes the worm and causes it to release its grip on the intestines.
Ferns are neither "male" nor "female", fern spores form small structures that produce both male and female cells.

Mallow

Mallow soothes the mucous membranes as in a cold. Poultices relieve the pain of sores, insect stings and swelling.

Marigold

Useful externally and internally for cancers, wounds, ulcers, hepatitis - makes an excellent salve. Tincture made of the flowers for bruises and sprains.

Meliot

Sweet clover is a mild astringent, it is used as a poultice for inflammations and wounds of tender parts of the body, such as eyes.

Milk Thistle

Silybum marianum, Marian Thistle

Part used: Fruit

The fruit is used as a liver-regenerator, it stimulates the growth of new liver cells and is used in the treatment of hepatitis and cirrhosis and it restores impaired liver function. It also supplies an antidote to "Death Cap Mushroom", which kills its victims by destroying liver cells.

Nettle, large, small

Nettles contain iron, sulphor, potassium and sodium. Excellent for kidney trouble. They expel bladder stones.
The boiled leaves applied externally will stop bleeding almost at once. Tea from the root is used in haemorrhaging from urinary organs, lungs, intestines, stomach and nose. Tea from leaves will clean out urinary tract and expel phlegm from lungs. The green leaves, cooked like spinach, make a good blood purifier.

Excellent hair tonic - will bring back natural color - removes dandruff. Simmer for thirty minutes and use as a final rinse.


Orrisroot

Fresh leaves have little or no scent. Characteristic violet odor is gradually developed during drying process. Maximum fragrance is reached after two years.

Parsley

Roots and leaves are excellent for hepatitis, fevers, obstruction of liver and spleen. Poultice of bruised leaves is excellent for swollen glands, swollen breasts - will dry up milk. A tea from crushed seeds will kill head lice.

Parsley is excellent to inhibit cancer. Parsley is rich in potassium. It has been found that cancer cells cannot multiply in potassium

Peppermint

Excellent for chills - fevers - gas on stomach - nausea - vomiting - diarrhea - cholera - heart trouble - 'flu and colds - hysteria. Hot, strong peppermint tea restores after fainting and dizzy spells - strengthens heart muscles - cleanses and strengthens entire body. Use hot peppermint tea for headache.

Applied externally for rheumatism, neuralgia and headache.


Prickly Lettuce

Prickly lettuce is valued as a painkiller and a sedative.

Red Poppy

Papaver rhoeas, Flanders Poppy

Part used: Blossoms, seed

The Red Poppy has a long honored reputation as a sedative. It contains a non-poisonous sedative alkaloid called rhoeadine. But, unlike his cousin the "Opium Poppy", it contains no narcotics. The blossoms and seeds are also added to cough syrups. The flowers are used as a dye in teas, wine and ink.

Rosemary

Good mouth wash for gums, halitosis, sore throat - aids digestion. Helps a weak memory, quickens the senses, clears the vision. Drink hot morning and night for rheumatism and arthritis.

Sage

Wounds heal more rapidly when washed with sage tea - soothing for the nerves. Will make hair grow if roots are not destroyed - removes dandruff. Good in joint pains - strengthens the memory - quickens the senses.

Saint-John's Wort

Nervous tension - insomnia - cramps - colic - bed-wetting - anxiety - headaches - migraines. A restorative treatment for melancholic conditions, depressions, and the convalescence following concussions and other trauma. A combination of restorative and relaxant effect, especially very helpful with all the symptoms of menopause.
Ointment made from Saint-John's Wort is used as an astringent for bruises, skin irritations and insect bites.

Senna

Yarrow

If the tea is taken freely at the beginning of a cold, mixed with elderberry blossoms and peppermint, and one remains in bed, it will break up a cold in 24 hours.
