To 'let go' is not to cut myself off,
To 'let go' is not to enable,
To 'let go' is to admit powerlessness,
To 'let go' is not to try to change or blame another,
To 'let go' is not to care for,
To 'let go' is not to fix,
To 'let go' is not to judge,
To 'let go' is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes
To 'let go' is not to be protective,
To 'let go' is not to deny,
To 'let go' is not to nag, scold, or argue,
To 'let go' is not to adjust everything to my own desires,
To 'let go' is not to criticize and regulate anybody,
To 'let go' is not to regret the past,
To 'let go' is to fear less

Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no farther. Then the man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily.
But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time.
Neither happened!
In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly. What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been.
And we could never fly.

An old man sitting on a bench said, "Funny, I've seen hundreds of 'em jump like that, especially when there are dogs around and they can't come to the ground. A lot of 'em miss, but I've never seen any hurt in trying." Then he chuckled. "I guess they've got to risk it if they don't want to spend their lives in one tree."
I thought, "A squirrel takes a chance - have I less nerve than a squirrel?"
Since then, whenever I have to choose between risking a new venture or hanging back, I hear the old man on the park bench saying, "They've got to risk it if they don't want to spend their lives in one tree."
So I've jumped again and again. And in jumping I've learned why the squirrels so often do it: it's fun.

FOOTPRINTSKhalil GibranOne night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with God. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him, and the other to God.When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life! This really bothered him and he questioned God about it. "God, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me." God replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you." |

At twenty:
Into the dazzling world you stride
With scarcely a backward glance,
Into the cruel, competitive race -
Into romance.
"Come back!' cries my heart,
"There's danger."
Knowing it does no good,
Knowing I'd never dim your dreams
Nor keep you if I could.

We pray for the children
And we pray for those
who stare at photographers from behind barbed wire,
who can't bound down the street in a new pair of sneakers,
who never 'counted potatoes',
who are born in places we wouldn't be caught dead,
who never go to the circus,
who live in an X-rated world.
We pray for the children
And we pray for those
who never get dessert,
who have no safe blanket to drag behind them,
who watch their parents, watch them die,
who can't find any bread to steal,
who don't have any rooms to clean up,
whose picture aren't on anybody's dresser,
whose monsters are real.
We pray for the children
And we pray for those
whose nightmares come in the daytime,
who will eat anything,
who have never seen a dentist,
who aren't spoiled by anybody,
who go to bed hungry and cry themselves to sleep,
who live and move, but have no being.
We pray for the children who want to be carried
For those we smother ...

One song can spark a moment,
One flower can wake the dream.
One tree can start a forest,
One bird can herald spring.
One smile begins a friendship,
One handclasp lifts a soul.
One star can guide a ship at sea,
One word can frame the goal.
One vote can change a nation,
One sunbeam lights a room.
One candle wipes out darkness,
One laugh will conquer gloom.
One step must start each journey,
One word must start each prayer.
One hope will raise your spirits,
One touch can show you care.
One voice can speak with wisdom,
One heart can know what's true,
One life can make the difference,
You see, it's up to you!seen on a Church Bulletin Ste. Genevieve United Church, Montreal, Canada
