Bonding
Bonding is the use of an adhesive to attach a restorative material to remaining tooth structure. This method of restoration is preferred over basic filling placement, particularly in situations where there is simply not enough tooth structure to contain a filling. The role of the adhesive is to fixate the filling to the walls of the tooth; that way, as the tooth flexes and strains with use, the tooth/filling is less likely to fracture away from the other.
If the tooth is too damaged or broken-down, a bonded restoration would not be too effective. The tooth would then require a cast - Custom-Fitted Crown, before it can be rendered useful & functional.
