The above is a photo of a cemented porcelain-metal crown.
Note how it blends with the neighbouring teeth.
The porcelain was custom shaded to match the patient's natural appearance

Crowns

Crowns are custom-fitted restorations which are seated over the existing tooth structure. They are shaped to resemble the original tooth and can be entirely made up of alloy, porcelain or both. The crown preperation & design is achieved by the dentist at the initial appointment. An impression (duplicate mold) of the prepared crown design is taken and then sent to a laboratory for crown fabrication.

At the next appointment (usually 7-10 days later), the crown is cemented onto the tooth. Naturally - just like any other tooth, the crowned tooth will require regular hygiene (brushing & flossing).
