Guards

Sports Guards & Brux (grinding) guards are preventive appliances. They prevent damage or further damage to your teeth & gums. Although both the sports guard & brux guard's design is similar, the material from which they are made are different.

Sports Guards are designed to protect an athlete's teeth during a sporting activity. These guards are particularly recommended for players engaged in semi- or full-contact sports. Examples are: Hockey, Soccer, Football, Karate, etc. The benefits of wearing a sports guard are obvious. In addition to the bracing & cushioning effect of the guard, the low cost of a sports guard dramatically outweigh the cost of repairing damaged or fractured teeth.

Brux Guards (also called night-guards) are preventive appliances which help distribute one's clenching or grinding forces during sleep. Bruxing (clenching or grinding of teeth) is a phenomenon which many people engage in during their unconscious state of sleep. Such habits do lead to premature wear of teeth and damage to the root/gum regions. The brux guard can slow down or halt the wear/damage process. Your dentist will recommend such an appliance only if he sees such signs of dental damage during the examination.
