Through the "Born to Be Wild" Campaign, Whale Friends is campaigning to:

  • prevent the Vancouver Aquarium from acquiring new captive whales and dolphins
  • compel the Vancouver Aquarium to entirely phase-out its cetacean captivity program

"Phase-out" means not importing new captive whales or dolphins, ending all captivity breeding programs, and putting resources towards the SAFE rehabilitation of existing captives into the wild. It does not mean the immediate release into the wild of the Aquarium's present captives.

Campaigns are movements for ethical transformation. Campaigning organizations are the catalyst for ethical change. A comprehensive campaign speaks both to the heart and the mind of the public... it dynamically engages all of the moral, political, educational and scientific issues.

The "Born to Be Wild" Campaign engages the public through protests and non-violent civil disobedience actions; public events such as concerts and symposia; community and school outreach; and participation in the democratic process.
