"Laura
Di Cicco brings a fierce hauteur to her brief
scenes as Lili, and Julie McIsaac shines as
a sassy teenager who tries to seduce Flynn in
the play's best scene. Rounding out the chorus

acoustic guitar and warm presence are grounding
elements in the show."

Shakespeare's
R&J
by Joe Calarco, adapted from Shakespeare
MD Theatre Co-op
Critics
Picks: Top Theatre Productions of 2006 - The Courier
Critics Picks: Top Theatre Productions of 2006 - The Province
Play of the Month - Vancouverplays.com
“..you’ve
never imagined it like this.”
“..it’s like knowing the play for the first time.”
“This is the magic of theatre.”
“..the performances are all so beautifully transparent.”
“Shakespeare with no frills but all the thrills.”
Jerry Wasserman, The Province, vancouverplays.com
“Director
Jack Paterson has choreographed his cast carefully in a very
small space, placing everyone exactly where they should be
to milk a scene for maximum effect. He also finds endless
ways for them to play with the pieces only prop, a red tablecloth
used as a dagger or a ring or simply as a bloody link between
lovers or haters.”
”Best
of all, Paterson shapes the performances to fit together so
well that while each actor could stand alone on any stage
from Bard on the Beach to Stratford, this is also an amazing
ensemble.”
”Shakespeare’s R&J truly soars with loves
light wings.”
Peter Bernie, The Vancouver Sun
"This
may be the sweetest Juliet I have ever seen.."
"Never have the sonnets resonated so beautifully."
"Paterson's directing is sharp and tight making this
production as moving as any Romeo and Juliet I've seen. On
top of everything, it's a celebration of the power of language
to move us, to teach us, to give us pleasure. "
Jo Ledingham, The Courier
"Everything
about the show, from the economical yet kinetic blocking to
Al Frisk's stark set to the committed, impassioned performances
of Drebit, Emanuel, Daryl King and Omari Newton is focused,
clear and direct. And the tension between the boys' initial,
hormone-driven rambunctiousness and the gentler, more intimate
modes of male interacting that they discover through reading
aloud and giving life to Shakespeare's words--modes forbidden
them by the patriarchal dictates of their school--is beautifully
realized."

Henry
6 Parts 2 & 3
b y William Shakespeare
Savage God: The Bardathon
“John Paterson, directing the second
and third part of Henry VI, gave clarity to this confusing
play by having his actors wear distinctive clothes,
the nobility in suits and ties and the people in casual
attire. He also differentiated the opposing factions
by the use of coloured scarves. The stylized fights
in this production were particularly effective.”
