The origin of the surname GREAVES

Greave: Is a place name that was derived from the place in Lancashire by that name and was used to describe the man who moved from that place. Greave is derived from the Old English groefe = thicket, woodbrush. Greve, Greaves, Greves, Greeves are all variations of Greave.

The family motto "Aquilla Non Captat Muscas"

The English translation means "The Eagle does not catch flies" The assumption is that it saves its' energy for larger things.
