Some of my Interests & Hobbies
My Family Helen and I have Seven Children. The children's ages range from 12 to 28. This keeps us pretty busy. Three of our children are still living at home the others are on their own. So far they all still live within the Province of British Columbia. That is nice as it allows us to visit them and our Grandchildren easily. While you are here check out my Family Tree.
Technology I like all kinds of technology. I am kind of a technology collector. Although I rarely watch TV (ER excluded) I just had to have the first Satellite Dish on the block. I have been Online now for what seems like forever (Approx. 12 years) and the Internet has seen many changes. Probably one of the reasons that I like it. I teach a Introductory Internet course for Selkirk College here in Grand Forks and the biggest challenge is to keep up with the changes. I also enjoy listening to my Realistic Pro 2036 Radio Scanner. I have posted Boundary Area Radio Frequencies here for anyone who is interested. If you can help me keep this list complete I would appreciate it.
Recreation I like camping and the outdoors, especially the beach. The local rivers and Christina Lake are some of the cleanest and nicest places to swim in our Province. Helen and I also enjoy the ocean beaches when we visit our son John in Victoria. In the winter I enjoy skiing. For the past five years my family and I have purchased a season pass to the local ski hill Phoenix Mountain. We take advantage of the interchange feature to ski Mount Baldy, Big White, Whitewater, Red Mountain and 49 Degrees North. This is a fantastic area if you like to ski or snowboard. All of these resorts and more are within a 2 1/2 hour drive.
My Toy
I own a 1984 750
Yamaha Virago. I couldn't believe my
luck when I found it. It had only 14,000 kms on it and was in mint condition. I have put
another 40,000 kms on it in the short time I have owned it. I added a windshield,
saddlebags, Mustang Seat and the only maintenance or repairs that It has needed are a new battery,
tires, and a electrical repair. Helen and I have taken it for 4 annual rides to the coast
to see the Symphony of Fire in Vancouver. We have toured southern Vancouver Island, and we
do a lot of touring around the Okanagan and the Washington Inland Empire. Our daughter
Sabrina has just purchased a new motorcycle and she would like us to join her for a tour
of the Oregon Coast. We are looking forward to that.
Politics I am involved in Local Politics. I have a large family and therefore a vast interest in the economic health of our community. It is important to me that our region can support the employment that my children an I will need, now and in the future. I believe that by advocating for my community I have been able to achieve things that the community otherwise would not have received. Watching our ideas and dreams become discussions and then turn into reality is very rewarding. I served as a Trustee on School District # 51 for twelve years. I was a founding member of BEAT (The Boundary Economic Action Team). I am a member of the Grand Forks and District Recreation Commission and the Youth Task Force. In June of 1997 I ran for Federal Politics as a Liberal candidate for Member of Parliament.
