Grand Forks City Council created the the Youth Task Force to explore ways to proactively deal with youth and youth issues in the community. Councilor Cherie Chursinoff chairs the Task Force. It is made up of interested members of the community of any age who are interested in helping to make our community focus include issues that reflect a concern for our young citizens.

    The first need that we identified was the need for  a coordinator who would have the time to to pull together all of the initiatives that most of us are aware of but don't have the time to devote full time to. The Task force was successful in convincing a number of funding sources concerning the value of this position. Shad Turcotte, a former student from Grand Forks Secondary School who is returning to our community after completing his education and working in a similar position in the Lower Mainland is the successful candidate for this position.
