| Jon and Rika have been singing shanties for over thirty years, the last twenty or so with the Vancouver Folk Song Society’s ShantyCrew. In 2004, Jon and Rika teamed up with two other members of the ShantyCrew, Henk Piket and Simon Trevelyan, to form North by West. The quartet has sung in BC, Washington and Quebec at a variety of sea festivals, and presents concerts and workshops in all aspects of marine song. Their first CD, “Steveston Bound”, celebrates the old fishing port south of Vancouver, where they performed for the Tall Ships festival in 2002, and where they have given many subsequent concerts. |
