ABOUT ME

My name is Joe Tiffin and I have been persuing my family history since Christmas 2003. I was born in Saskatoon Saskatchewan but moved to Vancouver for work in 1973. Here I met my wife who is that rarity a native Vancouverite. We still live in Vancouver where we are raising our family.

My Uncle Fred and Aunt Frances had visited Cockermouth in about 1970 and had brought back quite a bit of information on the family. This was used as the basis for a family chart by Verna Wallace, the wife of my father's cousin. I saw this chart at that time and was very interested by it, but I lost track of who had it until 2003 when my cousin mentioned it was in his possesion. It was decided that I would try and put the information into a computer program so he gave the chart to me. With the development of the internet in the intervening years it has become much easier to find information so I began doing a few simple web searches to see what I could find out. Very quickly I found other people whose trees intersected my tree. This led me to the work of an individual named Joseph Andrew Tiffin to whom I would like to pay particular tribute. During the 1960's and early 1970's he amassed a huge amount of information on the Tiffin family. Wherever he travelled he would phone all of the Tiffins in the book and ended up entering into correspondence with many of these people. Since beginning this research evidence has surfaced that Uncle Fred and Aunt Frances were among them. Much of the information in this website is based on his research. Access to historical records is vastly easier today than it was then so I have spent many many hours at the library vetting, augmenting and occasionally correcting his work. As a result my understanding of what brought my GreatGrandfather to Canada has been greatly altered. I continue to look for and find other people who are descendants of various branches of the family, doing as much as I can to cross check data they supply me as I go. My hope is that this web site will help me to find even more of these descendants and show them something about their ancestors.
