Maggie Owen was born in Ireland. There, as a young child, her love of flowers was inspired by her grandfather, an enthusiastic gardener.
It wasn't until many years later, after moving to Canada and raising her two children, that she finally settled on Vancouver Island, took up a paintbrush and started her own artistic journey.
Maggie studied the Impressionists and was greatly influenced by Matisse, Van Dongen and Manet. Over time, and with the encouragement of her mentor, Elizabeth Rollins, she has developed her own distinctive style.
In the Summer Maggie's days are spent in her ever-expanding garden, and like her garden, her paintngs are bold and bursting with colour.
The endless pleasures of a garden - the vibrant colour of fresh flowers, a favourite pot, and the sensual form of sweet fruit - I want to share these with you in my paintings.
