Kamloops &
District Seniors Outreach Services Society (SOS) is a non profit agency
incorporated in 1987, initially funded by the New Horizon project.
It began through the efforts of community professionals recognizing there
was a need for peer counseling for seniors.
Over the years, through the dedication and interest of volunteers, other
programs were developed, maintaining our objective of “Seniors Helping
Seniors.”
SOS mandate is:
Dedicated, caring volunteers helping seniors (age 55+) in the community to
maintain independence in daily living through Seniors Outreach Services (SOS)
support, service, communication, or referral.
The following is a
detailed list of the SOS programs that have been developed to encourage and
enhance the well being of seniors in the community:

QUALIFIED VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST YOU

WILL REFER TO APPROPRIATE AGENCY
Volunteer
positions are available in all SOS programs. Grocery shopping, visiting, good
morning telephone calls, providing emergency transportation are some of the
areas that volunteers can give a hand. It is not necessary to be a senior. If
you are 19 or older, enjoy the company of seniors, and have a few hours to
spare, we would like to meet you. Please stop into our office #103- 540 Seymour
Street and meet the staff. Office hours are 9am to 3pm Monday to Thursday-
828-0600. Applicants should bring names of two local references and be willing
to have a criminal records check.
Orientation and training is provided
MEMBERSHIP
An annual membership in Seniors Outreach Services Society is $2.00. It allows
each member an opportunity to run for office on the volunteer board of directors
of the Society, attend and vote at the Annual General Meeting.
