The
Shopping Program was developed by Canada
Safeway and Seniors Outreach Services
Society(SOS) to provide
free volunteer-assisted grocery
shopping service to those 55 and older.
There are two types of weekly
shopping service (Thursday mornings) at
both Safeway stores in Kamloops for
seniors registered with Seniors Outreach
Society.
The
In Store shopping program is for those
who are able to come into the store to
participate in their own shopping, with
the assistance of a volunteer.
SOS arranges transportation to
and from the store by Handydart.
At the present time, the
Handydart. fare is $2.00 each way.
In- store shoppers, registered on
this program, receive 10 % discount.
Safeway provides delivery service
for orders over $25.
Those
seniors who are unable to come into the
store because of disability or health
problems, may use the phone in service.
It is available only on Thursdays
between 9 am and noon at both stores.
The 10% discount does not apply to phone
in orders.
To
place an order by phone:
Prepare your grocery list ahead of
placing the call.
Have your name, address, phone
number ready to give to the volunteer,
as well as your Safeway member card.
A SOS volunteer will take your
order.
They may ask questions about
dietary restrictions.
You may stipulate
You will need to inform the SOS
volunteer of the method of payment you
will be using.
Credit card numbers may be given.
If you wish to pay by cash or have a
Safeway cheque cashing card, you may pay
the delivery driver. You may also give
the volunteer your “air miles”
number.

clients to remain at home Thursday
afternoons to receive delivery of their
groceries.
