Camelia has fantastic lineage.  Blood from Benitez, Jimenez, Terry, and the Yeguada Militar run through her veins....the best of Spain!

Camelia's sire, Crown S Cubanito II, was bred by Glen O. Smith who was one of the very first importers of Andalusians to North America in the late 1960's (see our history page for more information on the early importers and their horses).  Cubanito II went on to do reining, cutting, jump a 3'6" course, 4th level dressage...and even gave polo a shot!  He was also shown in western pleasure and ridden in Rose Parades.  Camelia is one of the few purebred daughters of Cubanito II.

Camelia is a gorgeous double registered solid-built pure Spanish mare with excellent bone (20cm cannons), straight legs, and free, straight movement.  She is a big bodied mare, round and short-backed.....true to Spanish type...and with an absolutely beautiful face. She is brave, a good mom, and passes her willing, gentle temperament and great conformation to her foals.  Camelia passed revision (under the Cria Caballar) but was eventually denied entry into the Spanish studbook because her sire, although pure Spanish, was never registered with Spain.

Cubanito II's sire, Caballeroso de Nevasco, is also the sire of such notable horses as Recluta II, Lisonjerio III, and Sangria.... dam of Teodoro, the two-time National Champion Stallion.  Caballeroso was a Bocado/Terry and Galvez bred stallion.  Galvez horses were originally acquired from Concepcion de la Concha & Sierra, a breeder of fighting bulls established in Spain in the 1800s.

Cubanito II's dam was Cubanita.  Cubanita was a Galvez bred mare as well and was imported in 1966 at the age of 9 by Glen O. Smith. Cubanita was one of the first few pure Spanish Andalusians imported to North America from Spain.

Camelia's dam, Regala, a Regalado II daughter, was bred by Lanys Kaye-Eddie of Gremlan Farms in California.  Regalado II was imported from Spain in 1983 and was a noted USDF competitor and the 1997 IALHA Dressage Horse of the Year.

Regalado II's sire, Leviton, was the famed Spanish "Champion of Champions", an exceptional mover, and a very important stallion of the Spanish Military Stud Farm.  He is the #3 ranked horse in LIMPRE (the book of merit of the Spanish Association of breeders).  Leviton is also the sire of Evento, the Olympic dressage stallion that represented Spain in the 1996 Atlanta games.

Regala's dam, Brava, was a Banbury bred mare.  Sally Cleaver of Banbury Cross Farm, one of the pioneers of the Andalusian breed in North America, bred horses known for their talent, presence, exceptional movement, and Spanish type.

Camelia is in foal to the 16hh bay Bravio XVI son, Gaston, for a May 2010 foal.  Check back for more information later this summer...

Camelia came to us from Louisiana in November of 2004.  Special thanks to Pam Benton-Hines of Tyler, TX, for trusting us with owning this true Spanish treasure!
