Montero del Bosque (‘huntsman’ in Spanish; also a member of the Royal Guard in Spain) is a beautiful upright bay PRE colt born May 26th.  He is by the 16.0hh black Martinez-Boloix, Escalera, and Urquijo bred PRE stallion, Hercules G, and out of the PRE Indiano XVIII daughter, Marquesa del Bosque.

Montero is very kind, sweet, and sensitive…a result of his high percentage of Bocado/Cartuja breeding.  Although he has a high percentage of Bocado/Cartuja breeding, his inbreeding coefficient is only 4.78% which is very low for that line of PRE.  And although Montero has a high percentage of Bocado/Cartuja lineage, he also has some powerful performance lines so he will be a great working horse candidate.  He would also make a wonderful addition to, or foundation stallion for, an Iberian breeding program.  He should mature to 15.3hh-16.0hh and be a very nice, round, and classic baroque style Andalusian horse at maturity.

The only white markings he has are two white hind low pasterns.  There are no signs this colt will turn grey - in fact, he is the identical colour his full sister was born back in 2017 and she was tested to not have any grey genes and is now a very dark bay at two years old.  Montero is just starting to shed out his foal coat and is very dark bay underneath.  He is EEAa… homozygous for black (no red) and heterozygous for agouti (bay).

Montero’s sire, Hercules G, is a 16.0hh homozygous black revised PRE Andalusian stallion. Herc carries with him some very distinguished and powerful performance bloodlines that are rare in North America. His bloodlines are not only rare for any pure Spanish horse in North America, but his lines are extremely rare for a Spanish horse that is BLACK. Read more about Herc on
his page.

Montero’s dam, Marquesa del Bosque, is a beautiful and exceptionally well-bred PRE Andalusian mare.  ‘Diva’ is full-bodied with lots of substance, classic Spanish characteristics, great bone, and fantastic bloodlines via the renowned sire and internationally acclaimed champion, Indiano XVIII, a Nobleza del Guadiana branded stallion imported from Spain, and also through Diva’s dam, Magdalena SF, an almost pure Cartuja/Bocado bred mare.  See more info on Diva on her page.

Montero comes with his IALHA registration paid for but he is also eligible for registration with lgANCCE in Spain and with PRE Mundial. Check back regularly for updates and new photos!
