The Internet plays a relatively large part of my life.  I treat it as an extension to the room I am sitting in.  My involvement and interests on the web are shown on this page. 

Instant Messaging

IM Identities

MSN Messenger My MSN nickname is ÐentArthurDent.  You can add me to your contact list by using my personal email address.  Online status indeterminate

Google Talk My Gmail ID is lorne.nicol.  Add the @gmail.com suffix to the ID when adding me to your contact list.  Online status indeterminate

My Yahoo! user ID is lornicol.

On ICQ, my user nickname is lornic and my UIN is 2749561.

My AIM Screen Name is AZLorNic.

Because I work in the computer field for a living and am connected to the Internet almost all the time, I can easily be contacted online using Instant Messaging (IM) software.  I have been IMing since 1997 and have online identities with each of the IM tools shown here. 

While I can and sometimes do run these IMs individually, I usually use Gaim.  Gaim emulates all the IM software products shown here and allows me to use all my online identities simultaneously under one application. 

Status

Because I have my IM IDs online virtually all the time, I use the status indicator to tell others when and how I can be messaged online. 

• Online - Am free to openly chat. 
• Busy - Am online and free to say hello and answer specific, pointed queries.  However, I prefer not to engage in idle conversations. 
• Do Not Disturb - Am online, but too busy to say hello and would prefer not being engaged in any discussions 
• Be Right Back (BRB) - Am online, but have stepped away from my computer for a short period.  I can be messaged, but won't respond til I sit back down. 
• Offline - Probably away from my computer. 

Online Groups and Communities

There are a lot of communities out on the net where one can post information about themselves.  Social networking sites, communities involved in common interests, etc.  Of course, I have signed up for a whole boatload of them over the years.  I am somewhat loathe to repost information that I have published here already, so I often don't bother (especially if the site allows for links to personal pages). 

Here is a list of some of the ones I am most active with: 

• FaceBook  - The more professional/functional of the popular social networking sites.  I refuse to have anything to do with MySpace (have you SEEN some of the gawdy profiles on there. 

• Yahoo 360Live

• Microsoft Live

• StickAm - An absolutely awesome site for video conferencing.  Unfortunately, it tends to be filled with teeny-boppers and pervs. 

• YouTube - Created an ID here primarily to get my Canadiana videos onto the web, so I could put them back on my webspace (the old large Quicktime movies exceeded my allotted space capacity).
