NetAcquire allows one to play the great Avalon-Hill board game of Acquire via a computer network. The program software was written by Kensit Technologies.
It works over any network supporting TCP/IP (acronym for the standard Internet communication protocol). This means anyone on the Internet and most other networks.
Note that there may be limitations when firewalls and gateways are involved. These limitations are not within NetAcquire, but rather, security and routing concerns of a technical nature that are external to the NetAcquire program. The NetAcquire web page provides more information about dealing with these issues.
NetAcquire utilizes dedicated links between users and it is not possible for hackers to connect to a user's computer through NetAcquire. That is to say, NetAcquire has a dedicated protocol of commands that are specific to playing the game, there are no generic functions that can be hacked into.
It should be noted that this does not guarantee safety. Like most network-utilizing software, NetAcquire uses a single computer port to communicate over the network. All network communication is first received by your Operating System (ie. Windows) before being passed on to NetAcquire. This should not alarm you, as ALL software that utilizes the network has the same issue. NetAcquire can guarantee that any communication it receives that is not relevant to its operation will be rejected.
With noted variations, NetAcquire plays the game based on the original Avalon-Hill rules of the game. It currently does not support any variants of the game rules.
