Geographic Range: Range is from Alaska to southern California

You can identify this crab by its prominent oval black eyes and claws and legs covered with spines. This is one of the largest hermit crabs and is very common from Alaska to California particularly on sandy protected bottoms in relatively shallow water. The shells are often covered with other marine life like hydroids.
**B**Beachwalkers Info:
This animal does not inhabit the intertidal zone so you are very unlikely to find it beachwalking or tidepooling.
