Bull kelp is an algae, a very big algae, it is made up of 3 parts, a hold fast to attach it to the bottom, a stipe which is sort of like along stem ending in a single float and fronds or long leaf like parts that float on the surface attached to the float.

**B**Beachwalkers Info:

From many beaches in B.C. you can see large beds of bull kelp just off shore. Bull kelp is also often found washed up on the shore. This algae was very important to the first peoples of the area who used it to make strong ropes. Kelp in general is also an important stabilizer in many food products from ice cream to beer.
