It is rare that you see this crab out in the open they prefer to hide in crevices. If you do see one they are easy to identify by the heart shaped markings on their backs. The colour is usually gray/brown or yellow. This is a lithode crab

This animal does not inhabit the intertidal zone so you are very unlikely to find it beachwalking or tidepooling.
