Latin Name: Porichthys notatus
Geographic Range: Range is from Alaska to Baja.
SCUBA Divers Info:
A member of the Batrachoididae or Toadfish family the Plainfin midshipman is usually buried in sand during the day. Coming out at night the midshipman will often hover motionless several feet above the sand. The name midshipman comes from the row of dots or midshipman's buttons down the sides.
**B**Beachwalkers Info:
This animal does not inhabit the intertidal zone so you are very unlikely to find it beachwalking or tidepooling.
