I've heard a few reports of black rockfish being sighted around Whytecliff Park (Canada's only full marine protoected area) and since in 10 years of diving I've never seen one in this area I thought it was worth a look. I quickly went deep in the actual "cut" where the rockfish have supposidly been seen but I did not find any. I did see the resident school of yellow-tail rockfish a nice sight since many folks thought them extinct in the local area. All in all it was a fun dive and we spent some time poking arond the anemone forest and ended the dive in the shallows. No black rockfish but since the sources are pretty reliable I'm sure they are around. |
